The 22nd SIACOT was held in November 2024 in La Serena, Chile, organized by the PROTERRA Network and the University of La Serena. As the main Ibero-American event on earthen architecture, it gathered professionals, academics, and students to share experiences on construction techniques, heritage, education, and innovation. Presentations included papers, posters, project reports, and videos.
As part of my graduation project, I had the opportunity to participate in that year's SIACOT seminar. My goal was to connect with others, understand where we stand in relation to other professionals across Latin America, and explore the possibility of building networks, extending an invitation to Ciudad Abierta, and ideally laying the groundwork for a future travesía.
In alignment with the workshop I presented, the project stood out for its originality—questioning the limits of rammed earth (tapial) design. It approached the material not only as an ecological catalyst but also as a blank canvas, using formwork as a creative tool to test the boundaries of the construction system.
The workshop gained strong recognition, and we are currently preparing to submit a proposal for the next SIACOT (23°), to be held in Europe.
